Free and Firth hold on
Leading combination, Dave Free and Gerry Firth, had to overcome a strong comeback before taking out this season’s Over 65 Mens Lawn Bowls Pairs title.
After opening with a five against Crellan Hooper and Les Gimblett, the duo seemed to be in full control at 12-5 after nine of the 15 ends. But Hooper and Gimblett then picked up four singles and a double over the next five ends to close to one with one end left.
A single by Free and Firth, however, ensured them of the win in a final featuring many excellent shots.
One interesting stat from the match was that the winners won only five of the 15 ends.
